Description of the legal requirements
It should be performed on the basis of technical documentation including:
- building permit design developed in accordance with the Regulation on the detailed scope and form of the building permit design (Regulation of the Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, OJ 2012, item 462 with later amendments),
- technical specification of execution and acceptance of installation works.
It should include:
- determination of the type of windows and balcony doors and the method of their installation
- the preparation of the reveal
- description of the window installation with the indication of the method of sealing the frame to reveal joint
- requirements to be met by materials for installation, insulation and sealing, including mechanical fastening elements,
- technological descriptions of the execution of individual stages of installation with a clear indication of the contractor and of the person responsible for their execution,
- conditions for starting the installation, including a summary of the tests or measurements necessary to perform before and after the installation,
- specifications and requirements for installation, insulation and sealing materials (adhesives, surface primers, finishing materials, mechanical fasteners, etc.),
- documentation confirming the quality of the materials used, required at the acceptance,
- schedule of work.
the proposals for changes should be agreed with the designer and his consent as well as that of the investor must be obtained.
Agreed amendments and changes should be registered in the construction logbook and - in accordance with the requirements of the Construction Law Act - marked on the project in an unquestionable way. The project with the the amendments constitutes the as-built documentation.

It is important when assessing the technical correctness of the installation, it should be systematically recorded in the construction log. The records should include:
- the sequence and manner of execution of individual stages of work, the conditions for their execution,
- dates of acceptance of materials for installation and confirmation of checking the marking of the delivered materials/products together with the assessment of the correctness of the accompanying documents, such as: declarations of performance, declarations of conformity, certificates, technical sheets, manuals.
Confirming acceptance of products/materials for installation, insulation and sealing of windows. The documentation should include:
- certificates (if such are the investor's requirements),
- declarations of performance (construction products covered by harmonised standards) EC/EU declarations of conformity (products covered by Technical Approvals)
- the national declaration of conformity (currently not in force)
- the national declaration of commercial property (mark "B" for AT or COT),
- technical cards (where applicable).
The contractor should be provided with the information from the manufacturers of the products and materials about their shelf life for each of the products and materials used.
If no technical specification is attached to the investor's agreement with the contractor, the type of windows to be installed, the method of installation and acceptance conditions should be specified in the description in the documentation, e.g. with a reference to the following:
- the guide "Windows and exit doors. Requirements, classification and scope of application" (ITB - Instytut Techniki Budowlanej - Building Research Institute - Guidelines 480/2012)
- Technical conditions for the Execution and Acceptance of Construction Work Part B: Finishing work Notebook 6: "Installation of windows and balcony doors" ITB 2016
- Guidelines for the installation of windows and exit doors in new and renovated buildings" IFT 2018,
- Sealing and insulation standard for joints between the reveal and the frame" Selena FM 2020
Useful technical terms
The thermal insulation of the window (heat transfer coefficient) to the point of contact with the wall (junction of the reveal with the frame) according to technical conditions as for 31.12.2020 should amount to 0.9 W/m2K.
The joint should be insulated in such way that it also constitutes an acoustic barrier. In order to reduce the transmission of ambient airborne sound into the building by using partitions with adequate sound insulation, taking into account all its parts and components, such as window frames and air vents, regardless of the result of calculations in the acoustic design, the sound insulation of the building envelope should not be less than R'A,2 = 30 dB. This requirement does not apply to external partitions of halls and reception areas in hotels, corridors and recreation rooms in schools, consumption rooms of cafes and restaurants, exhibition halls and rooms for sports activities and other rooms of similar purpose, for which the minimum insulation should amount R’A,2 = 25 dB.
In the amendment to the Technical Conditions of 2008, for the first time in Poland, recommendations concerning the tightness of a building have been included. According to them, the air exchange rate with a standard test pressure difference of 50 Pa should not exceed 1.5 [1/h] for buildings with mechanical ventilation and 3.0 [1/h] for gravity ventilation. However, in passive buildings the air exchange rate in the same conditions should not exceed 0.6 [1/h]. Such a high tightness level requires special solutions and sealing materials, and it must become the subject of control tests of the casing tightness in the finishing phase of the construction.
According to the requirements of "Technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location" for residential buildings, the minimum value of the dimensionless temperature fRsi should be 0.72.
