Below you will find a list of the most frequently asked questions. We have tried to anticipate all possibilities. However, if you have not found the answer to your question - use the contact form.

1. Is it possible to heat the foam can in the fall and winter, and how?

This is how you can heat, but you should always be very careful when doing so.
A can of PU foam can be heated by putting it in a container of warm water with a maximum temperature of up to + 40C.
Caution: the can must not be placed in hot (above +40C) and boiling water, boiled or heated with an open flame, as this is dangerous and risks explosion.

2. How to store PU foam cans in the car during the period of variable temperature, i.e. when the temperature drops below +5C during the day?

PU foam cans should be stored in an upright position, with the valve up. The temperature in the car should be from + 5C to + 30 C. If the indicated storage conditions cannot be provided in the car, the products should not be stored there.
Foam should always be protected from freezing that is, in practice, we recommend:

  • WEBASTO can be installed in the driver's cabin to ensure a minimum temperature of +5C and store foam there,
  • or buy a travel refrigerator, which is lined on the inside with XPS panels on all sides and so store foam.

It should be remembered, however, that when the temperature drops below -5C we absolutely do not keep foam in the car, even in containers or in the cabin with WEBASTO.

3. Why should foam not be stored horizontally?

The can of PU foam must not be stored horizontally, as this can lead to damage and sealing of the valve by the liquid prepolymer in the package.

4. Does sealing the joinery with only expanding tapes, which replace PU foam, achieve the same performance as with WINS systems?

Wins systems are characterized by completely different and more favorable performance characteristics during application. In addition, WINS systems provide a higher technical performance of sealing after installation of the joinery than the BG1 class, which refers to expansion tapes. WINS systems are hurricane resistant up to 160 km/h, UV resistant for 10 years, and a joint made with q WINS systems can be covered by a tightness guarantee for 20 years. In addition, sealing a joint with WINS systems is faster, simpler and does not require precise preparation of the joint. WINS systems ensure that there is no possibility of condensation in the joints or mold in the window reveal.

5. What to remove the cured PU foam with?

Cured PU foam should be removed mechanically or by using a dedicated TYTAN Professional cured foam cleaner.

6. What to remove the cured WINS liquid film with?

Already cured WINS liquid film should be carefully removed by hand from the surface by gently undermining and peeling it off. It is recommended to use plastic, wooden or silicone hard spatulas for this.

7. Can WINS systems be used with warm sills?

Yes, of course, WINS Systems are also dedicated to windows with a warm sill installed.

8. What documents are available for construction supervision regarding WINS systems?
  • KOT issued by ITB for the WINS system with the number ITB-KOT-2021/1605
  • Selena standard in which a thermal-moisture analysis of a typical joint is included.

To determine the feasibility of performing an expert thermal-moisture analysis of a specific case, please contact your WINS technical advisor.
Note for Advisors : such personal analysis is done only for large prestigious investments, when such expertise is justified economically or image - decisions are always made by Division WINS manager (Jarek Tomala) in consultation with DBM

9. How do you make the seal at the sills?

The window should have a window trim installed. The gap should be sealed using the full WINS FAST or FLEX system. The sill should be slid into the under-sill trim, the space under the sill should be filled with PU foam or use TYTAN 60 SECOND foam adhesive. In addition, the window sills should be sealed using dedicated TYTAN Professional silicone. In order to achieve full tightness of the entire window joint, it is recommended to additionally seal with WINS liquid foil the outer and inner horizontal contact line of the warm sill with the wall (horizontal reveal line at the sill)

10. Is anchoring on dowels through frames inappropriate?

Mechanical installation of woodwork using dowels is an effective installation method approved by window manufacturers.

11. Sills, postponement of sill installation work with WINS FIX system. Can the installation of window sills be postponed?

It all depends on the installation situation on site. In many cases, there is no problem with this, for example, in the case where in the lower zone under the window frame, the PU foam is protected with a liquid film and the full tightness of the joint is ensured. In the case of a bipartite sill, it is necessary to remember to seal the horizontal line of contact between the sill and the wall with WINS film.

12. Sealing in the threshold of the terrace window.

A full seal should be made using the WINS FAST or WINS FLEX system. In addition, after the liquid exterior film has cured, an additional seal should be made in the lower zone under the door frame using a suitable EPDM tape.

13. Window extended beyond the face of the wall, how to cut foam and seal with WINS film?

Foam should be cut at a slight angle on the line - from the edge of the joinery frame to the reveal surface.
WINS liquid films should be applied in the same way as for a window flush with the wall, i.e. making sure that the inner and outer liquid films overlap at least 3 mm on the frame and 5 mm on the frame.

14. How to seal the joints when the blind is installed together with the window?

If it is not possible to install the guides after the application of PU foam, cutting and the application of liquid film and its curing. Cut the foam according to the location of the outer surface of the roller shutter guide relative to the outer face of the wall:

  • Guides inserted relative to the face of the wall.
PU foam cut from the edge of the jamb to the edge of the guide.
  • Guides extended slightly outward - beyond the face of the wall
  • Cutting PU foam from the closest edge of the frame surface to the wall
15. How to install windows at temperatures below 5st.C with the parameters of the WINS joint?

It is possible to install windows at temperatures below +5C and insulate joints using WINS Flex foam However, conditions of + 5 C must be ensured for the use of WINS FAST PU foam and WINS liquid films.
In the case of installation with sealing at temperatures below +5C. It is possible to perform joint sealing with PU FLEX foam and not to cut the foam until the possible application conditions for liquid films, that is, a minimum of + 5C, are ensured. However, the period between foam application and WINS treatment and coating must not be longer than a month. On the other hand, the PU foam surface after cutting off must not be degraded and must not be soggy.

16. What is the sound insulation of the systems?

The sound insulation of the joint sealing system is at the min value as for the foams used:
Min. sound insulation of the WINS FAST system (EN ISO 10140) 63dB
Min. sound insulation for WINS FLEX (EN ISO 10140) 62dB

17. Window sill to the face of the window, how to seal then?

In general, it is always recommended to use under-window mouldings. If there is no under-sill trim, the connection between the window sill and the window frame surface should be carefully sealed using the appropriate TYTAN Professional silicone

18. What does the WINS guarantee apply to?

The warranty covers the parameters of joint tightness after installation, i.e. the so-called performance parameters of the joint after installation of the window and sealing with WINS Fast and WINS Flex systems, as in the table below

19. Are the properties of WINS films like those of textile films?

The properties of WINS films are not the same as those of textile films because WINS films are an integral part of WINS systems and the performance parameters of the whole system are declared, not the product itself, i.e. the film. Textile films are marketed as separate products, there are no studies on the market of performance parameters for systems based on textile films, because such true technical systems based on textile films do not exist on the market. There are no connector performance parameters for marketing systems based on textile films.
WINS systems based on WINS films:

  • Very fast application - 2x faster than standard three-layer systems based on textile films; no need for special substrate preparation
  • High thermal insulation λ ≤ 0.035 W/mK
  • Protects even the largest joinery elements from unsealing the joint
  • Perfectly transmits all building vibrations
  • Tight even under extreme loads on the window (rain impacts, shocks)
  • Does not deform frames
  • Ideal thermal and moisture work of the joint: Sd internal ≥ 30 m, Sd external ≤ 2 m
  • Excellent resistance to rainwater penetration in the class E1200 (1200 Pa)
  • Excellent resistance to air permeation in class 4 (600 Pa)
  • Temperature coefficient fRsi ≥ 0.8 (no possibility of moisture and fungus in the joint)
  • 10 years of UV resistance

Systems based on textile films:

  • the need for special preparation of the substrate which extends the work to several days
  • The tightness of the system depends on the accuracy of adhesion of textile films and the lack of destruction of them during finishing works
  • Does not deform the frames
  • No control of heat and moisture flow
  • Resistance to rainwater and air penetration in class 4 (600 Pa)
  • Max 1 year UV resistance
20. KOT for systems and products where can I download it?

From our website www.wins.tytan.pl

21. Does the liquid film infiltrate the window profiles and discolor them?

External and internal liquid film have been thoroughly tested in our accredited laboratories and the tests confirmed that both liquid films do not drip, do not infiltrate the window frame and also do not discolor PVC, metal and wooden frames

22. Can we use the products for wooden windows?

WINS systems are approved and tested with wood windows and can, of course, be used to seal and insulate wood window joints

23. Is it possible to mount the outer sill with screws to the window?

Window sills should not be installed with screws to the window. The matter should be consulted with the woodwork supplier.

24. What plasters can be used on WINS films?

All commercially available products for finishing doorframes, including all possible plasters, can be applied to WINS films.

25. Is it necessary to lean to seal in WINS systems?

Always provide safe working conditions for the installer in accordance with health and safety regulations. In the case of work carried out on the outside of the building at heights, the following should be provided as examples: scaffolding; boom or certified harness for work at heights together with a suitable and stable anchoring system.
All construction work must be carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.

26. How should the jamb be prepared for sealing in WINS systems?
  • Clean the substrate with a wire brush of loose and unbound pieces of building material.
  • Dust off the substrate with a vacuum cleaner. It should be clean and free of grease, dust, compact and free of loose elements and any substances that may impair the adhesion of PU foam and other products included in the system.
  • Fill large cavities in the reveal with a dedicated mortar, such as Tytan Mastic 3-30, after priming the surface with Multigrunt - primer S1.
There is no need for a special plaster band in and around the jamb
27. Can dowels be used in the bottom of the frame?

However, you can, provided that the dowels are tightly secured with the appropriate TYTAN Professional sealant

28. How to stick the flush trim on the laid film?

Glue the strip to the surface of the cured WINS coating (lengthwise).

29. How to properly perform external insulation on integro roller shutter with pasted warm sill and mounted roller shutter guides, where there is no approach to mount the guides after the insulation with foil?

PU foam after curing should be cut off flush from the edge of the window frame to the surface of the reveal ( applies to vertical tracks). In the case of the upper gap, the foam should be cut off in such a way as to ensure that the cassette can be installed at the end of the process after the application and curing of the liquid film. The liquid film should be applied so as to provide min. 3 mm on the joinery element and min. 5 mm on the surface of the reveal.

30. How to apply the foam when the window is exposed 1.5 cm beyond the face of the wall and we have a window with an overhead roller shutter?

In such a way that after cutting off the cured pu foam, the sealing lines are obtained from the edge of the frame to the reveal surface.

31. When sealing on the outside of the HST where there are widenings at the bottom and foam was used, protect the bottom of the cut foam with an external film before gluing the EPDM apron?

Yes. It is necessary to ensure continuity of full sealing with pu foam and liquid exterior film. However, after curing, EPDM tape should be tightened in the lower zone under the carpentry frame.

32. WINS solution at roller shutters, how to seal.

A. Woodwork with concealed roller shutter

  • The surface of the jamb should be compact, strong, clean and dry. Before starting mechanical installation of woodwork, the surface of the reveal should be cleaned with a suitable brush or vacuum cleaner. Mechanical installation of woodwork should be carried out in accordance with RAL technical guidelines. Before mechanical installation of the window frame, the roller shutter cassette should be mounted to the woodwork frame without mounting the guides on the frame. Particular attention should be paid to the stable and tight connection of the roller shutter components to the joinery frame structure.
  • In addition, special attention should be paid to the tight connection of the under-window trim or door sill elements with the joinery frame structure. In the case of tight connection of the under sill ( e.g., made of purenite), it is recommended to use TYTAN FIX²GT glue (additionally, in the case of purenite, it is necessary to perform the assembly with mechanical fasteners).
  • After the mechanical assembly of the joinery is completed, the gap between the surface of the reveal and the surface of the joinery frame or the surface of the roller shutter cassette ( applies to the upper zone under the lintel) should be sealed. For this purpose, it is necessary to use all products included in the WINS FLEX or WINS FAST system
  • Filling the gap between the carpentry frame or in the upper part between the cassette and the surface of the jamb should be carried out from the bottom to the top in two working cycles, filling the gap on both sides to a depth of 4 cm per working cycle. It should be noted that the gaps should be filled with fresh pu foam in 100% of the longitudinal and transverse sections without leaving any empty spaces. The width of the joint should be in the range of 10 mm to 30 mm. At a product application temperature of +10 ̊C and above, wet the reveal surface before filling the joint and the pu foam surface after each completed stage of the application cycle. Wetting should be done with a water mist using a suitable sprayer.
The recommended temperature range of air and substrate during application of TYTAN FLEX pu foam is from - 10 ̊C to + 35 ̊C for TYTAN FAST pu foam is from +5 ̊C to + 35 ̊C Always the temperature of the product can be at least + 5 ̊C while optimally at room temperature + 20 ̊C.
  • After full hardening of pu foam ( min. 1,5 hours**) excess foam should be cut off from the inside flush with the surface of the door frame. In the case of a slight extension of the joinery frame beyond the face of the wall, the pu foam cut from the outside should be carried out from the corner of the frame to the surface of the jamb.
  • The surface of the woodwork frame and the surface of the roller shutter cassette should be protected from the inside and outside of the room with the appropriate TYTAN masking tape. If there is an original protective tape on the surface of PVC profiles. You should secure only the places where the tape is missing (e.g. corners, places near the hinges) with the appropriate TYTAN tape. When applying the protective tape, pay attention to ensure a distance of min. 3 mm from the end of the woodwork frame
  • Liquid interior film should be applied to the entire surface of the pu foam, it should overlap the surface of the joinery frame and the surface of the roller shutter cassette min. 3 mm and min. 5 mm on the surface of the reveal. In the case of mechanical installation with anchors, all anchors including mechanical fasteners should be thoroughly covered with liquid film. The thickness of the applied layer of liquid interior film should be 2 mm. The product should be applied at ambient temperature and substrate temperature ranging from + 5 ̊C to + 30 ̊C.
When applying the liquid outer film, the entire surface of the pu foam should be covered and the liquid film should overlap min. 3 mm on the surface of the frame, the surface of the roller shutter cassette and min. 5 mm on the surface of the frame. The thickness of the applied layer should be 1 mm. The product should be applied at an ambient temperature ranging from + 5 ̊C to + 30 ̊C.
In addition, the recommended substrate temperature is at + 5 ̊C to + 70 ̊C.
Immediately after finishing the spreading of the liquid film ( applies to both the inner and outer film), remove the protective tapes.
  • After the curing of the liquid outer film, install the roller shutter guides on the frame of the window joinery.

B. Woodwork with concealed roller shutter

  • The surface of the reveal should be compact, strong, clean and dry. Before starting the mechanical installation of woodwork, the surface of the reveal should be cleaned with a suitable brush or vacuum cleaner.
  • Mechanical installation of woodwork should be carried out without guides and roller shutter cassette and in accordance with RAL technical guidelines.
In addition, special attention should be paid to the tight connection of the sill trim or door sill elements with the frame structure of the door joinery. In the case of tight connection of the under sill ( e.g., made of purenite), it is recommended to use TYTAN FIX²GT glue (additionally, in the case of purenite, it is necessary to perform installation with mechanical fasteners).
  • Once the mechanical assembly of the joinery is completed, the gap between the surface of the reveal and the surface of the joinery frame should be sealed. For this purpose, it is necessary to use all products included in the WINS FLEX or WINS FAST system
  • Filling the gap between the joinery frame and the surface of the reveal should be carried out from the bottom to the top in two working cycles, filling the gap on both sides to a depth of 4 cm per working cycle. Care should be taken to ensure that the gaps are filled with fresh pu foam in 100% of the longitudinal and transverse sections without leaving any voids. The width of the joint should be in the range of 10 mm to 30 mm. At a product application temperature of +10 ̊C and above, wet the reveal surface before filling the joint and the pu foam surface after each completed stage of the application cycle. Wetting should be done with a water mist using a suitable sprayer.
The recommended temperature range of air and substrate during application of TYTAN FLEX foam is from - 10 ̊C to + 35 ̊C, while for TYTAN FAST foam it is from +5 ̊C to + 35 ̊C. Always the temperature of the product can should be at least + 5 ̊C while optimally at room temperature + 20 ̊C.
  • After full hardening of pu foam ( min. 1,5 hours**) excess foam should be cut off from the inside flush with the surface of the door frame. Due to the delicate protrusion of the joinery frame beyond the face of the wall, the cutting of pu foam from the outside should be carried out from the corner of the frame to the surface of the reveal, according to the following drawings:
  • The surface of the joinery frame should be protected from the inside and outside of the room with the appropriate TYTAN masking tape. In case there is an original protective tape on the surface of PVC profiles. You should secure only the places where the tape is missing ( for example, corners, places near the hinges) with the appropriate TYTAN tape. When applying the protective tape, pay attention to ensure a distance of min. 3 mm from the end of the woodwork frame
  • Liquid interior film should be applied to the entire surface of the pu foam, it should overlap the surface of the joinery frame min. 3 mm and min. 5 mm on the surface of the reveal. In the case of mechanical installation with anchors, all anchors including mechanical fasteners should be thoroughly covered with liquid film. The thickness of the applied layer of liquid interior film should be 2 mm.
The product should be applied at ambient and substrate temperatures ranging from + 5 ̊C to + 30 ̊C.

When applying the liquid outer film, the entire surface of the pu foam should be covered and the liquid film should overlap min. 3 mm on the frame surface and min.

Immediately after finishing spreading the liquid film ( applies to both the inner and outer film), remove the protective tapes.

  • After the liquid outer film has hardened, install the roller shutter guides on the joinery frame then carry out the installation of the INTEGRO roller shutter cassette.
